Shiblee Munir

Artist: Shiblee Munir. Medium: Mixed media on paper. Year: 2018. Contact: info@unicorngalleryblog.com

Shiblee Munir was born into a family of fine artists, in the year 1982, in Jhang, Pakistan. Shiblee’s ancestors followed the first Mughal Emperor Babur from their native Afghanistan to Persia and then India, as part of his team of painters and calligraphers, remaining at the Delhi court until the early 19th century. However, with the decline of Mughal power and art patronage, they moved to Patiala (India) transferring the thorough grounding in the Mughal painterly tradition to this Sikh-ruled court. Heading the Miniature Department at the Mayo School of Arts in 1945-1966, Ustad Haji Sharif developed the first curriculum for teaching miniature painting at an academic institution, and he trained the first cohort of miniaturists in independent Pakistan. Shiblee also received academic degrees from the Naqsh School of Arts and Beaconhouse National University. In addition to being a practicing artist, he lectures at the Institute of Visual Arts & Design of the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), curates exhibitions and is currently pursuing Ms leading to Ph.D in studio practice at the University of Punjab.

Shahid Jalal

Artist: Shahid Jalal Medium: Oil on canvas Year: 2017 Contact: unicorngallery@gmail.com

SHAHID JALAL (Born 1948) is one of the outstanding members of the Association who has no art qualification from any institution and has therefore not been mentioned in their context. He has developed a style of his own which is executed with thick impasto brush strokes, the surface being further divided to form a subtle pattern in his patiently executed landscapes, in which the sunlight and shadows are the other striking elements of the larger design – Paintings at Alhamra ’50 years of Lahore Arts Council’ by Dr. Mussarat Hassan

There is nothing casual or even offhand in his work. Both the subject and the style are neat, orderly, planned, precise and refined, like the artist himself – Landscape painters, ‘Painters of Pakistan’ by S. Amjad Ali
